The short answer
Sweden has many English-taught Master’s programs and a high quality of life, but its rules are tightening in 2026: a 15-hour weekly work cap for most students from 11 June and stricter family-reunification rules from 1 October. PR takes about four years on a work permit.

Rules are changing in 2026
Sweden’s work-hour cap (11 June 2026) and stricter family-reunification rules (1 October 2026) are new. Sweden is no longer the easy option for bringing a spouse or partner. Ask us for the latest position before you plan around it.
